When I was in my teens, I didn’t realize it, but I was pretty damn depressed and anxious, and before I knew it, I was diagnosed with an eating disorder. I spent a lot of my time denying this fact, but it was clear to many of the people around me. It was about that time that I was introduced to my first therapist. I fought this lady tooth and nail, but she persisted. She was gentle but direct, caring, but not overbearing. While I am a very different kind of therapist then this lady was, it was her persistent, gentle care that helped get me to the next step in my life, and it’s that part of her approach that I will carry into our sessions together. 

Today, many years later, I am still in therapy. I’m not there for the reasons that first brought me to see a therapist; I’m now there because I want to learn more about myself and continue to grow into a complete version of myself. My time in therapy is very rewarding, but I won’t lie and say it’s easy. Learning and growing takes time, effort, perseverance, and patience. I know what it’s like to feel uncomfortable and vulnerable. Because I know all of this firsthand, I can enter into your process with you with more empathy for all you might experience during your time with me.

Over the years, I’ve learned that therapy is a process. There are no wrong marks in the process of therapy, no wrong moves, and no wrong notes. In that way, therapy is like creating and refining a work of art, choreography, or a musical score. As an artist myself, I can assure you that the act of approaching a blank canvas can be simultaneously intimidating and invigorating. In my experience, the same is true for the therapy process, but in this instance, the work of art, the performance, the music, is you. In my own therapeutic process, I learned to realize that sometimes the process can cause the canvas to look messy and muddy. Still, by applying patience, determination, and grit, a picture began to emerge that revealed clarity and meaning to what was once confusing.

The first thing I want to express is gratitude for you to be here searching for help and hope, which is an accomplishment in and of itself. The foundation of my approach to therapy is gratitude. I am thankful and reminded of the privilege I have as a therapist when my clients allow me to come along with them on the journey towards healing. Unknowingly to me, my journey began as a high schooler mentoring younger middle school kids. I developed a sense of being present and existing in another experience. Even as a professional football player in the NFL, I developed a love and passion for therapy and counseling. Though I have grown and continue to develop experience in utilizing many therapy modalities, my approach to therapy is reflection and action.

Therapy should be active, insightful, and action-oriented. I truly believe the therapist and the client work together to resolve, uncover, and understand the presenting problem's nature. Although most come to therapy to address a certain problem, therapy can also be a space geared towards discovery and improvement.

My desire as a therapist is for my clients to have peace with themselves and their world. In his book “the gift of therapy,” Irvin D. Yalom wrote, “a heightened sensibility to existential issues deeply influences the nature of the relationship of the therapist and patient and affects every single therapy session.” Activating awareness allows us to know our unknowns. Lastly, the journey is beautiful and encapsulates all the things that make us human beings.

I am a therapist specializing in mindfulness. I started my undergraduate career as a Journalism major, because I have always been drawn to others’ stories. It is this love of listening and connection that eventually led me to become a therapist.

Now, curiosity, warmth, and genuine interest continue to drive my work with individuals and couples. I believe that creating a calm, accepting environment in which you can slow down and give yourself space to process is invaluable. I work with clients collaboratively to help them move toward more peace, more calm, and more balance. I like to work slowly and intentionally, with mindfulness and compassion at the center of what I do.

I believe the most powerful tool we can offer others is our ability to authentically, genuinely, and completely listen. I have been privileged to work with many children, teens, and adults and bear witness to their stories. It has been the most profound gift, and I am grateful to have been trusted with the opportunity to hear them. My work as a clinician is grounded in listening. In establishing a safe, supportive, and nurturing co-created environment. It is rooted in helping people find their voice and trust their own ability to change their lives.

The power of being present and fully at the moment can transform lives. Being able to pause, take a breath, and mindfully can alter our reality. It is in this pause where we can be still and choose rather than react. When our brains have been hardwired to respond because of trauma and adversity, we must actively seek to disrupt this pattern. I believe that understanding our patterns can help us to avoid repeating ones that no longer serve us.
